Youth Sustainability Summer Camps

youthinkgreen is an international green movement founded in Berlin, Germany, which is dedicated to empowering youth through different local projects. In Egypt, a group of highly motivated engineering students at Cairo University took the initiative to tackle the environmental problems that we suffer from by founding youthinkgreen-Egypt. Working under the motto “local solutions for global challenges”, we are determined to make a positive change through fostering and implementing renewable energy and sustainability in our community through organizing sustainability summer schools and camps, organizing awareness campaigns, and building renewable energy products.

In 2014, we organized the First Youth National Sustainability Summer School in Egypt, and the main theme was “Solar Energy.” We offered our outstanding carefully selected participants the theoretical and practical knowledge about the solar energy through different academic sessions, workshops, and field trips.

Our participants also worked on their very own project ideas with our professional trainers from Egypt and abroad, and at the end of the summer school, they pitched their ideas in front of different investors from the private and the governmental sectors. By providing five youth sustainable projects to the community at the end of the summer school, we believe that this program has a profound impact on our society.

After the visible success of the last summer school, we are maximizing our effort this summer to organize the Second Youth National Sustainability Summer Camp in Egypt, which will take place in the Technical University Berlin (TUB) Campus El Gouna from July 31 to August 22. The theme this year is “Renewable Energy and its Modern Applications”, focusing on Solar Energy, Energy Food Water (EFW) Nexus, Sustainable Cities and Energy Management.

After launching our application online, we received around triple the number of applications we received last year, which reflects our program’s positive impact and outreach.  We chose the best and most qualified 40 candidates, based on their academic and leadership skills, to attend our program, which is professionally tailored with Egyptian and international experts in the fields of renewable energy, sustainability, and entrepreneurship.

Our proposed value lies within preparing and providing well-educated and skillful young scientists and entrepreneurs willing to work on solving the energy crisis. By completing this summer camp, the participants will be ready and qualified to work on their innovative ideas that they were working on during the camp. Our aim is to make sure that the projects of the teams will remain sustainable. Hence, we created a pipeline where the projects will be incubated by different organizations so that the teams will eventually have their own startups.

Since our unique initiative is a student-based one, our only sources of fund are through the sponsorship of different private and public organizations, and through the contributions of many motivated individuals who really care a lot about the environment and want to make a positive change in the community. Our program is offered for our participants free of charge, or otherwise a symbolic commitment fee is assigned (500 L.E ≈ $65).

The financial support we got on ground and the $25,000 we are aiming from your contribution will be used in providing our participants with transportation, accommodation, catering, academic and entrepreneurial sessions, technical workshops, field trips, and prototyping. Furthermore, we get professional instructors and coaches from Egypt and Germany to give these sessions and workshops, so we have to provide them domestic and international flights, lecturing fees, and accommodation.

يوثينكجرين هي حركة شبابية عالمية بدأت في مدينة برلين في ألمانيا و هي معنية بتمكين الشباب من خلال مشاريع محلية مختلفة. بدأت المبادرة في مصر بمجموعة متحمسة من طلاب كلية الهندسة بجامعة القاهرة و تهدف الي معالجة مشاكل البيئة و الطاقة. نحن نعمل في يوثينكجرين تحت شعار "حلول محلية لتحديات عالمية" حيث اننا نريد ايجاد حلول مستدامة لهذه المشاكل باستخدام الطاقة المتجددة و تطبيقاتها لذلك نقوم بتنظيم المدارس و المعسكرات الصيفية لتعليم الشباب جميع علوم الطاقات المتجددة و تطبيقاتها. أيضا نعمل علي بناء منتجات صديقة للبيئة و ننشر الوعي في المجتمع من خلال حملات التوعية مكثفة.

نظمنا العام الماضي أول مدرسة صيفية شبابية في مصر عن الطاقة الشمسية. تمكنا من اختيار أكفاء و أفضل المتقدمين للالتحاق بالبرنامج و وفرنا لهم محاضرات و وورش عمل عن الطاقة الشمسة و زيارة ميدانية تنتج الكهرباء من الطاقة الشمسية. عمل الطلاب مع متخصصين من مصر و خارج مصر علي تنمية افكارهم و تحويلها الي مشاريع مبتكرة ليعرضوها في نهاية المدرسة الصيفية أمام مستثمرين من القطاعين الخاص و العام. نحن نؤمن بأننا أفدنا المجتمع بانتاج خمس مشروعات عن الطاقة الشمسية و الاستدامة كأحد نتائج المدرسة الصيفية

بعد نجاح المدرسة الصيفية الأولي الملموس, قررنا تنظيم معسكر شبابي في صيف هذا العام في جامعة برلين الفنية فرع مدينة الجونة بمصر ابتدائا من يوم 31 يوليو الي يوم 22 أغسطس. سيتركز المعسكر الصيفي هذا العام في الطاقة الشمسية و المدن المستدامة و ادارة الطاقة.

من علامات نجاح المدرسة الصيفية الماضية هي استقبالنا عدد كبير من المتقدمين هذه السنة وصل الي ثلاث اضعاف المتقدمين  في السنة الماضية. بعد اجراء مقابلات شخصية لعدد كبير منهم, أخترنا افضل 40 متقدم بنائا علي الكفاءة العلمية و المهارات الريادية ليشتركوا في البرنامج الذي صمم خصيصا لهم من خبراء مصريين و أجانب في مجالات الاستدامة و الطاقة المتجددة و الريادة.

القيمة المقترحة تكمن فى تجهيز و توفير علماء شباب متعلمين و ماهرين و مبادرين و راغبين فى العمل علي حل أزمة الطاقة. سيكون المشتركون جاهزين و كوفء بنهاية المعسكر الصيفى للعمل على أفكارهم المبتكرة التى كانوا يعملون عليها طوال المعسكر. هدفنا هو التأكد من أن مشروعات المجموعات ستظل مستدامة. لذلك نعمل على أحتضان المشروعات من منظمات مختلفة حتى يتم تجهيزهم للأنطلاق و ريادة سوق العمل.

بما أن مبادرتنا المتميزة تقوم علي تنظيمها الطلاب فقط،  فان مصدرنا الوحيد للتمويل هو مساهمات المنظمات الخاصة و العامة و مساهمات كل من هو مهتم بالبيئة و يريد أن يحدث تغيير ايجابى فى المجتمع. نقدم برنامجنا للمشتركين بدون دفع اي رسوم للمشاركة او رسوم رمزية لضمان الحضور و الألتزام تكون قيمتها (500 جم ≈ $65).

نستخدم الدعم المالي الذي حصلنا عليه و المبلغ الذي نستهدفه من مساهماتكم لتوفير المواصلات و المبيت و التغذية و المحاضرات و ورش العمل الفنية و الزيارات الميدانية و تنفيذ النماذج. أيضا نستخدم هذه المبالغ لتوفير المواصلات و رسوم التدريس و المبيت للأساتذة و المدربين المحترفين من داخل مصر و خارجها.

مساهمتكم لن تساعد الشباب علي تعلم علوم الطاقة الشمسية و تطبيقاتها فقط, بل ستمكنهم من ان يكون لديهم مشروعاتهم الخاصة بهم التي ستفيد المجتمع كله. أيضا ستدعمونا في توفير تعليم ذو جودة عالية و خبرة رائعة لمجموعة من الطلاب المتميزين من جميع انحاء مصر.
