2ayqithini is a new album by veteran independent Jordanian composer Yacoub Abu Ghosh featuring the beautiful voice of Palestinian singer Laila Sabbagh. The album will consist of 7 songs, 5 of which Yacoub wrote the lyrics to while one was written by Palestinian poet Amer Badran and one is a poem by the great Egyptian poet Ahmad Shawqi. The album will also include 3 instrumental pieces.
The album is the the fruit of more than two years of intense work both conceptually and productively. In it's maturity it became a sound that carries a distinct tie to the cultural inheritance of the region while attempting to create new and inventive approaches to remain more than just relevant and current but hopefully a powerful trend setter that strives to raise the standards of both the independent and mainstream music scenes in the Arab world.
We are hoping to raise 50 thousand dollars in 3 milestone: the first milestone, 25 thousand dollars, will be used for the completion of the production process which includes musicians fees, recording, mixing and mastering the music. The second milestone accumulating another 10 thousand dollars will be used for creating a musical video of one of the songs in the album since video nowadays is the most powerful medium for music promotion in the world. The last milestone of another 15 thousand dollars will go towards creating an album launching concert to where the audience - and us - can experience the music played live first hand.
We are very excited to use the medium of crowdfunding for our production because we love the idea of each one of you being a part of our process and we hope it will make you feel like you own the music just as much as we do especially if you grow to love it. We believe that music and art in general are society's way of expressing itself, and little else makes that more tangible than crowdfunding.
The album is designed to cater - as much as possible - for a wide range of age groups from as young as late teens to audiences in their late 60’s and beyond. This is achieved through a carefully executed fusion between traditional and modern instrumentation in the processes of arrangement and execution of the work.
2ayqithini attempts to capture the essence of great Arab composers and musicians such as Riad Sunbati, Mohammad Abdul Wahab and the Rahbani brothers in a contemporary setting. Yet this is not achieved through trying to imitate their work or even presume to match their excellence; moreover it will be through attempting to channel their spirits as constant musical entrepreneurs and innovators who always sought to build on their achievements and push themselves to develop and be ahead of the curve. The work also seeks to be inspired by their immense work ethic and astute attention to every detail and all the elements that allowed their work to withstand the test of time. And that is exactly what is desired from this album: to withstand the test of time.
We invite you to be part of our project either by funding it or by getting the word out; tell your friends and share it on your social media pages. We worked hard and long to produce something that we are truly proud of, and your faith in us will be the most satisfying reward next to you enjoying our work and identifying with it.
There are no updates for this project yet.
