Every year, thousands of tons of rubber tubes from tires are disposed of as waste. This material is not degradable and would be energy-intensive to recycle. If burned, it produces highly toxic gases that pollute the environment even further. Reusing this material smartly can have a substantial impact on the environment.
VEA™ was born from a conscious purpose to contribute in preserving the environment. Being Fashionably Responsible, we are in the business of upcycling inner tire rubber tubes into fashionable, handmade rubber bags, purses, wallets, belts and accessories. All our products are designed by talented Lebanese fashion designers and handcrafted by our skilled tailors, with the collaboration of Société Saint Vincent de Paul – Liban. The rubber used in our products comes from used bicycle, motorbike, car and truck inner tire tubes.
The social aim of our work is to build and develop awareness about up-cycling in our society. Up-cycling initiatives like this one will help us leave this planet in a better shape for generations to come.
As a social business, our promise is centered on contributing in preserving the environment, as well as creating awareness for the same through everything we do. This is reflected in:
We are even measuring our social impact by including a counter on the website displaying how many kilograms of rubber have been saved since we started production!
VEA™ was founded in 2014 by Patrick El Zoghbi.
Early in 2014, Patrick was given the opportunity to make a fresh start in his life and career, he seized it and decided he would make something innovative, fashionable and eco-friendly. He focused on upcycling – turning discarded materials into something new and useful – and created a line of bags and accessories from the inner tubes of tires.
We aim to lead upcycling initiatives that involve discarded rubber and tires in Lebanon and the region, while remaining committed to preserving the environment because Fashion should also be responsible.
We will promote long-term sustainability by developing a full range of high-quality products that are (1) made from recycled rubber that would otherwise be buried in landfills or discarded in nature, (2) produced locally by local artists and tailors using domestic materials, and (3) manufactured in an environmentally sustainable manner.
So far, Vea has been auto financed by its founder Patrick el Zoghbi. Additional funds have been secured through grants from USAID and Vea was among the winners of the NABAD social entrepreneurship competition in 2013.
Vea is currently looking to expand to a new line of items: Home Decor and Accessories. It has had a successful launch of its first collection in November 2014 which included fashionable bags and a special line signed and endorsed by Ms. Paula Yacoubian. The Paula by Vea collection's profits went to serve causes of her choosing.
In order to kickstart the design and production phases for the new line of home deco items and accessories, Vea will need to raise the amount of $10,000.
Now for the fun part, here are the cool items we will be producing for this campaign and will act as a reward for your generous contributions.
All contributors will also receive a discount voucher for 20% to be used when buying our home deco items once launched in the near future.
The Vea Men's wallet is a pocket wallet. It provides slots for credit cards, bills & IDs, a compartment for paper notes and pen smartly in disguise, a great combination of a thin yet durable wallet.
Because our wallets are handmade and cut from various sections of different recycled inner tire tubes, each wallet will have a unique pattern(s) and feel. No two wallets are alike!
The Vea Women's Wallet is a simple way to stay organized. With seven card slots, two cash pockets, a large coin compartment and even a space for a pen, this wallet provides ample space without being too big or bulky. It has a stripped flap that closes with two snap buttons to hold everything together. Handmade from recycled inner tube, each wallet is unique due to the differing prints and patterns of the tubes.
With its unique shape, the Vea Shopper is made from a combination of recycled inner tire tubes with cotton lining. The almost rounded shape of this bag transforms slightly when carried due to the positioning of the handles that meet to form an external pocket on either side of the bag. The combination of vertical strips with the flat rubber surface adds to this bag's character. The bright colored interior and stitches create a pleasant contrast with the black rubber adding vibrancy to the design.
The Vea Men's Messenger is a cross-body bag made from a combination of recycled inner tire tubes with cotton lining. The main compartment has a rectangular shape with masculine detailing and finishing and is closed with a flap that buttons in the front. The strap is adjustable to accommodate different length preferences. The bright colored interior and stitches create a pleasant contrast with the black rubber adding vibrancy to the design.
This reward will give you the opportunity to work with the Vea designers to create your own custom designed bag. You'll be able to sit in for the sketching phase, give our designers your ideas and witness the transformation of those ideas into a working canvas. You'll also be able to assist our tailors in turning your designs into a finished custom bag.
The Special ONE is a high end eco-friendly clutch, with customized multi-function jewelry. It is a bag, a necklace, a bracelet and a key chain. You can own a unique piece of luxury while being Fashionably Responsible. The bag is endorsed by Paula Yacoubian for a good cause.
