Nehna wel Amar wel Jiran (Us, the Moon and the Neighbors) is a free, outdoor festival, open to everyone!
Neighbours far and wide, local and international artists, amateurs and professionals, children and adults alike, come together to transform an everyday Beirut neighbourhood into an enchanting backdrop where people from all walks of life come together to share and participate in quality artistic evenings.
Us, the Moon & the Neighbours Festival is first and foremost an invitation to those who long to create beautiful moments within a group, who believe that beauty and poetry are important to our lives and necessary to understand the world we live in and reimagine it.
Our fifth edition is happening in less than a month!
This year, Us, the Moon & the Neighbours travels further as Collectif Kahraba embarks on a new adventure: after 2 nights in Mar Mikhael, the village of Hammana, which is 40 minutes away from Beirut is calling us to experience another two artistic evenings.
Collectif Kahraba has moved to Hammana as founding partner and artistic director of a new cultural space Hammana Artist House. And they have embraced Hammana as one would embrace a new home. Hammana Artist House will be open for all.
With this adventure, we are relying again on cultural life as a perpetually evolving movement, confident that we can create bonds between people and support one another across regions.
Nehna wel Amar wel Jiran 2017 will take place on the 29th and 30th of August, on the Vendome Staircase in Mar Mikhael (Beirut) and on the 2nd & 3rd of September in Hammana.
This year our program will include over 600 artists, amateurs, and volunteers from Egypt, France, Spain, Syria and from all over Lebanon, who will come together to turn stairs, balconies, windows, rooftops and gardens into stages for theatre, puppetry, circus, storytelling, visual arts, music and contemporary dance.
We anticipate over 6000 spectators to attend this unique event.
It’s important to mention that this festival is not a profit generator. In fact, all participants (artists, organizers, designers, chefs, etc…) offer their services, because they believe in the social importance of this one-of-a-kind experience.
And here is where you come in!
Your contribution is vital as there are a lot of inevitable expenses (believe us, we have tried!) that need to be covered. We need to reach our set goal to simply:
First Goal: 4000$
Buy and rent technical equipment for the various performances. Every evening we have different performances running at the same time that require their own sound and light… and this doesn’t come cheap.
Hire some extra hands for technical duties. We are very crafty, but there are some specific jobs we are not qualified to do.
Second goal: 7000$
Bring our international artists to Lebanon! We need to purchase airfare and provide our guests with accommodation.
Third goal: 9000$
Cover material needs to construct scenographies and set-up visual art exhibitions. Whenever we can, we use recycled materials, but when you’re printing out photographs for an outdoor event, it isn’t that simple.
Offer hearty meals to 60 people for 14 days! Lunch and dinnertime are actually very important to us! They are special moments where we meet on a personal level, network, share our thoughts and begin to dream together of future projects.
Fourth goal: 12 000$
Build an archive. We need to fund the material requirements to document the event in order to leave a trace for others to get inspired.
Fund the communication campaign. It is necessary that we give the festival the exposure it deserves. A lot of heart and effort goes into making this event happen and we want people to share and experience it with us.
Fifth goal: 14 000$
Hosting international professionals. The festival presents some of the best artists based in Lebanon and wishes to accompany them beyond the days of the festival by providing them with further opportunities for touring, residencies, international collaborations and more.
If you cannot support Nehna wel Amar wel Jiran financially, there are a number of other ways to get involved:
SHARE this page! Spread the word! Let people around you know about this campaign via simple human interaction and social media.
Volunteer! This event can only happen through the involvement of many. Drop us few lines on email@example.com
After four successful runs, the importance of this festival is only made more evident. In a divided and tense social context, it is essential that Nehna wel Amar wel Jiran succeeds in continuing to build bridges and to create links between different members and participants of our society. We need to nurture imagination, curiosity and authenticity, in order to make manifest a culture of peace and diversity.
Because it is important to offer quality performances for free.
Because it is essential to share moments of beauty amongst family and community.
Because live art is a beautiful space for encounters and living together.
Because art and culture are two necessary ingredients for human dignity and the building of our societies.
We welcome you to come take part!
