Inspired by similar facilities in the city, Jabal Creative Loft is a hub of classrooms, studios, offices, multipurpose hall, conference room, and a library. JCL is open to all the user for nominal rent price, as it is a non-profit project that only aims to be self-sufficient and ensure its sustainability and maintenance over the years. The project idea is already at advanced phase, and now it's time for your contributions. Many good people have believed in our idea and offered their expertise for free. Thanks to the Qalaa Municipality, architecture firm, and the contractor who are willing to help as much as they can to make this idea reality. And we surely thank the donors in advance :).
Birth of Jabal Creative Loft:
A need to reconnect the youth to their roots has become eminent, and a fusion of things must happen to create a “potion” allowing these youths to revive with their society.
Jabal Creative Loft is a hybrid idea and a sustainable project that meets, to high extents, the needs of the townspeople. High school students, university students, and fresh graduates will find JCL an oasis of possibilities in a midst of a land they once thought deserted. Through its program [offices, classrooms, studios, library and multi-purpose hall] JCL will define a new language among its “broad” community. The project is estimated to serve not only the village it’s hosted by, but several villages around it.
Our community in Uppermost Maten, started to experience this disconnection between the sociocultural traditions, and the emerging townspeople who are choosing Beirut as a home for their opportunities. Our team understands the importance of those opportunities that feed on globalisation; but at the same time, we believe that townspeople must receive their chance. This allows to bridge the gap between the villages and their contemporary inhabitants.
Land & Location:
The project is receiving lots of support from people, especially those of authority in the area. The Municipality of Qalaa, represented by the Mayor, Mr. Raed Aboul Hosn, has welcomed the idea and provided JCL’s team by a strategic location to construct the building.
Furthermore, the architecture firm [inter] STUDIO provided the design that you see for free and the contracting company "Trust for Construction" has offered it's work labor services for free.
JCL's location plays an important role in the success of this project. Located in a central point along the busiest street in the Uppermost Maten Area. The project receives an extensive exposure and a promise that it will be used due to its ease of accessibility. JCL will sit on an unused roof of one-storey building; uncovered from all sides allowing plenty of natural daylight and unlimited views over the main road and nature. This will further play a role in the success of the program.
Scenarios of use:
The project does not aim to create any revenue for personal use but a nominal income to ensure its sustainability and self-sufficiency of JCL.
The uses of the spaces are unlimited; here are some of the scenarios:
- The offices serve as working hubs for the youth, who need a place to work on their freelance projects but do not afford the rent of actual offices. - The classrooms are open for students, of all ages, who seek aid in their studies.
- A study space.
- The multimedia hall holds many events from movie nights, lectures and most importantly an enclosed public space.
What your money will buy and what materials:
Your money will go to actually BUILD the low-budget [furnished] building, by purchasing eco-friendly materials that we don't have.
