With the support of
the Italian Cultural Institute in Cairo
Mission Roosevelt is a collective performance piece inviting an audience seated on wheelchairs to cross an urban space. The Downtown Contemporary Arts Festival (D-CAF)'s Urban Visions programme is counting on your support to bring the performance to the streets of Cairo for its 2015 edition!

/ WHAT IS D-CAF?D-CAF is Egypt’s only international multi-disciplinary contemporary arts festival, taking place over three weeks in March-April every year, at multiple sites across Downtown Cairo. D-CAF features local, regional and international music, theatre, dance, visual arts and film by cutting-edge artists from Egypt, the Arab world, and beyond. www.d-caf.org
/ WHY SUPPORT US?
Around 10% of Egyptians have a disability; one third of them are children and many have no access to rehabilitation services. Navigating Cairo by wheelchair is a challenge - whether in the streets, in public transport or in the many buildings that offer no step-free access.
In ‘Mission Roosevelt’, 20 members of the public will invade the streets of Cairo on wheelchairs. Through performing disability, participants, the audience and passers-by are reminded of their own complicity in the social construction of disability. We are inviting you to take a moment to reflect, to rethink disability and experience it in new ways.D-CAF'S Urban Visions programme goes beyond programming in established Downtown cultural spaces and theatres, instead breaking new ground by turning the street and unconventional sites such as historic buildings, storefronts, alleyways, and rooftops into spaces for performances and events with the aim of bringing both audience and performer to engage with the city and its inhabitants in new ways.

/ WHAT WE NEED
We need to raise $2,600 through the
generous support of D-CAF's fans and all those who support thought-provoking,
contemporary creation in the public space.
Your donations will enable us to purchase the 20 wheelchairs needed for Mission Roosevelt, all of which will subsequently be donated to Egyptian NGO, 'Egyptian Abilities' when the performance is over.
- About MISSION ROOSEVELT
Mission Roosevelt sets out to cross an urban space, to make a route and leave a trace. The wheelchair is the instrument and the tool of this project; it is a metaphor of the disparity through which to conquer the city. It is an experience of town planning, a performance appealing to the participation of the public which, installed on wheelchairs, is transformed into a kind of firing squad, and one merry war machine. Mission Roosevelt is an invasion of the city.
- A project by The Tony Clifton Circus
The Tony Clifton Circus came to life in 2001 courtesy of Italian/American artist Anthony Jerome Clifton meeting Nicola Danesi De Luca and Iacopo Fulgi. They aim to bring to the stage the rareness, the anomaly; they want to make us laugh but also to hold it in. They bring something more embarrassing than fun to the scene and they love mixing the most elemental craziness with comical tricks, and it is on these premises that their shows are born. www.tonycliftoncircus.com
- About EGYPTIAN ABILITIESEgyptian Abilities create better days and better lives for people with disabilities by working together with them. They provide purpose, develop independence and encourage connections through people, places and activity. www.egyptianabilities.com
