Founded in 1995, Zain in Jordan was the first operator to introduce mobile phone services into the country. In just a few years, it earned its reputation as the most progressive telecom operator in the region in terms of competitiveness, readiness to adopt new technologies, deploy cutting-edge services and invest in community development through the most active and substantive corporate social responsibility (CSR) program in the country.

Since its inception, Zain in Jordan has tallied subscriber growth at an exponential rate, with the number of users currently exceeded 4.04 million subscribers, and market share of 39% and with 3544 sites, Zain covers the entire populated area of the Kingdom.

Zain acquired the license to provide the four Generation services “LTE” for the first time in the kingdom, where these services provide up to 150 Mb per second. Zain will launch LTE services to include all the governorates of the Kingdom in the fourth quarter of 2014.

This foresight and courage to endlessly change, mature, recreate the company, and better serve customers and society, made Zain in Jordan a pillar of the national economy, directly employing over a thousand Jordanians and creating indirect job opportunities for thousands more, in addition to being the choice service provider of more than 4.04 million consumers.

In its most recent activities towards increasing youth employability and job creation, Zain Jordan established within the company’s departments a dedicated Corporate Entrepreneurship Responsibility (CER) division, where Zain becomes accordingly the first company in the kingdom that its organizational structure includes an assigned section to support and develop the ideas, projects and startups submitted by young entrepreneurs under the name of ZINC "Zain Innovation Campus". ZINC's main objectives is to support Jordanian youth with ideas and projects and provide them with resources to transform these ideas into startups and successful businesses.

Zain’s leadership of the local and regional telecom sector is attested by its awe inspiring crop of firsts:

  • It was the first Middle Eastern operator to launch MMS and mobile data services and infotainment solutions
  • The first to introduce WAP connectivity in Jordan
  • The first to form mobile banking partnerships with leading banks in Jordan, and the first to support BlackBerry communication services in Jordan
  • In addition, its core value of social outreach programs in education, health, youth and sports, and social development made it a role model for corporate Jordan
  • In 2012, Zain was the first in the Kingdom to launch Zain E-mal service. The service is mainly about creating a virtual wallet to be accessed and controlled from Zain customer’s mobile handset which will be utilized as an alternative payment method. In the same year, Zain launched the high – speed Zain Broadband services through modern HSPA+ technology. The new cutting edge and user friendly service will offer unprecedented speed for mobile internet data services across all Jordanian governorates
  • In November 2013, Zain Jordan partnered with Wamda to establish its Corporate Entrepreneurship Responsibility Division, the first of its kind in the region.
