Amal Al-Agroobi is a multi-award winning film producer/director and founder of independent film studio ALAGROOBI films, established in 2013. That same year, she won “best up and coming director of 2013” at the Digital Studio Awards in Dubai for her short documentary Half Emirati which premiered at Dubai Film Festival in 2012 and became the ‘most watched film’ at the festival. Her talents were recently honored by Women in Film and Television as “best new director” in the UAE and she recently picked up the “People’s Choice Award” at Dubai Film Festival 2013 for her feature length documentary. The Brain That Sings, which follows two autistic boys in the UAE on a 3-month journey undergoing music therapy. Amal completed her BSc in Biomedical Sciences and an MSc in Neurosciences, continuing her research in disorders of the brain in Brussels and London. While in London, she obtained a certificate in short film production, certificate in acting for film and continued gaining experience in acting for TVC’s and feature films. In 2011, she left the field of science to pursue her love for film and joined the production company Image Nation, Abu Dhabi on a 6-month traineeship program. Since she completed her training in 2012, she has been a driving force in the industry, moving from strength to strength. Amal continues to work on narrative and documentary films.
