PYM is a grassroots, youth-based organization committed to the leadership development, civic engagement and cultural empowerment of young Palestinian and Arab communities in the United States. Our vision is to foster a strong generation of justice-centered leaders who are engaged in the cultivation of the social, cultural and political fabric of our society. PYM works to create empowering spaces for Palestinian and Arab youth that allow us to address various issues our communities face in the U.S. including, but not limited to, education about Palestinian identities, censorship of our Palestinian experiences, Islamophobia, state surveillance and repression, sexism, racism and more. In light of the diversity of our communities, with nearly 500,000 Palestinians and 2,500,000 Arabs living in the US, we aim to bring together members of various political, national, gendered, economic, geographic, cultural and religious backgrounds to foster an inclusive yet pluralistic space of belonging in order to truly understand the diverse needs, voices and concerns of various sectors within our own community. We believe that in order for young people in our community to be active agents in transformative change, they must have a strong foundation in Palestinian history and culture, coupled with a study of the dynamics of power and privilege within and beyond our communities. Understanding the current challenges impacting our community may foster a collective, justice-centered and ethical approach towards meaningful change. Therefore, PYM is committed to educational and cultural programs for youth as a stepping stone to build consciousness and ethical leadership among the new generation. We also believe in skill development as a tool to strengthen professional, artistic, and organizational capacities and abilities among our new generation, bolstering confidence and self-esteem. We do this on the pathway to our goal of liberation and return.
